About The Shutter Factory

I'm Bill Wallace, owner of The Shutter Factory. Thanks for taking a minute to learn more about us. Here's a little background info on how we got started . . .

I was raised in the window covering business and began installing window treatments at the age of 15 for my mom's drapery company in Brownsville, Texas.

After graduating from college, I opened my own commercial drapery workroom in my hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Some of my major accounts at that time were the 3M Company, National Car Rental’s Corporate Headquarters, Rochester Methodist Hospital and The Mayo Clinic to mention a few.

I sold this drapery business in Minneapolis, moved to the Dallas area in 1982, and opened a new window treatment company under the name of Shutters, Etc.

It was not long until more and more of customers were not even wanting a quote on draperies. The most popular and requested window treatment was now plantation shutters instead of the traditional drapery treatments used for so many years in the past.

Not only were new homeowners wanting shutters for their new homes, homeowners that were upgrading their existing homes wanted shutters as part of their new décor.

During the early 1980s, I sold shutters to customers using a few of the wholesale shutter vendors in the Dallas area. It didn't take long to realize -- much like when I had the drapery workroom -- that unless I made the product myself, I had no control over the quality and delivery as well as the warranty that vendors extended to customers.

I wanted to provide the best price, quality, delivery and customer service possible like my family had done for decades. This could not be done purchasing shutters from a wholesale shutter house. So I decided to open my own production facility.

In 1989,THE SHUTTER FACTORY opened its doors with only a handful of employees and a small 3,500 sq. foot shop. The business kept growing as more and more customers loved their shutters and how they were treated by THE SHUTTER FACTORY.  We have grown primarily by word-of-mouth. Most of our business is word of mouth, with referrals from friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers of our customers.

Today, THE SHUTTER FACTORY has almost 50 full time employees that work in their 30,000 square foot state of the art facility located in Plano, Texas. After nearly 20 years in operation, THE SHUTTER FACTORY has manufactured and installed over 5.5 million square feet of plantation shutters to tens of thousands of satisfied homeowners as well as some of the most talented home builders and interior designers in the metroplex.

All of us at THE SHUTTER FACTORY would like to invite you to come visit us and take a tour of our home in Plano. When you arrive, you will witness the manufacturing of some of the highest quality shutters using the most innovated high tech machinery available to the shutter industry. Our shutter showroom is second to none in the area.
